Your best bet is to join the i n d i e ACX narrators group on Facebook. I am not trying to dissuade you but I just really want to give you a reality check. Most people who use ACX just use it for the ability to put together a contract with somebody and little else.Īlso when I started on there you would see a line on the front page that would tell you how many narrations available there were on the site and it almost always averages around 2- 3,000 books and then it would also list how many narrators were on the site. Nowadays there are a ton of scam titles and very few of the books are legitimate. When I started 6 years ago there were actually pretty good narrations on there and authors would list their books on there. I know there are a lot of Articles and YouTube videos out there that basically say hey this is really easy and you can earn extra money but the truth of it is it's not and you won't.ĪCX is the big platform where a lot of people start out. I do a lot of casting in addition to narration myself and so I get to hear a lot of people from all different skill levels. You can't use a USB microphone you have to use a professional level microphone because again you are competing with professional narrators for the jobs that are out there. So that part of it is not cheap and it's not easy. ![]() And then you also have to be ready to hire a proofer to check your work. When starting out most narrators also do all of their engineering and mastering. Most of us do this from home Studios that are very carefully set up in order to compete with professional studios. Most actors, radio personalities and voiceover artists habe to get a lot of coaching on order to have the right skill set to compete.
